Hollywood star George Clooney went overboard directing his latest movie, ‘The Boys In The Boat’, which has earned early Oscar buzz before opening in Britain Jan 12th 2024.
‘The Boys in the Boat’ is a wonderful, true story of overcoming the odds, facing defeat and winning on a global stage as underdogs against the Nazi superpower of Germany during the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The movie, based on the best-selling book of the same name, released in 2013, focuses on the University of Washington’s men’s rowing team as they prepare to compete in the 1936 Summer Olympics – Men’s Eight.

“Bob Mair, a music publisher in Atlanta, Georgia, contacted me after he’d listened to some songs from my solo album ‘From Stars We Came’. This was 5 years ago. He told me that he particularly liked a song called ‘Until Life Turns Your Way Again’; and would I be interested in him publishing the song through his company, Black Toast? I said yes! Bob promised he would find a home for the song. To be honest, our agreement had slipped my mind until November 2022 year when Bob contacted me to say that he had found ‘the perfect movie’ for my song. I had to sit down when he told me that George Clooney had picked ‘Until Life Turns Your Way Again’ for ‘The Boys In The Boat’…
The background to the song goes like this: I wrote the song in 1987 after H20 broke up. I had become a recluse and spent my time writing songs and taking long walks. The lyric tells the story of where I was at that time. It’s not sentimental in any way. The opposite is true- I had lost my way and I knew I had to do something about it. What though? I was not sure where to start. I had been in bands since I was 15, and was now 27. My life had been a whirlwind of hit songs, Top of The Pops and successful tours… and now nothing. The next few years were tough, but I still had hope that I could do more. Fast forward 35 years and the lyric resonates with Bob Mair and George Clooney. A story within a story. You couldn’t make it up!
